Typical Day With Puppies!

With two litters (and large ones!) due in January, we wanted to let you know what life is like at Premier Doodles once the puppies are born and thru the 8th week when they go to their new forever homes. It's an exciting time for sure, and we can never get enough of our little gems. So here's a typical day once they hit about 4-5 weeks of age (first few weeks similar but puppies nursing and we don't take them out yet)!

5:30 am Puppies begin waking up.

5:30-6:00 am. We immediately load them all up and take them out to our new puppy fenced in area (about 40 x 50 feet equipped with swimming pool, shaded areas, and lots of enrichment toys). We quickly begin using potty commands (Go Potty for pee pee and Go Poo Poo for, you know, #2!). We praise big time when they do this and we don't play with any of them until after they have all relieved themselves. They learn quickly to just get the business done so they can move on to play time. Water is provided ad libitum.

6:00-6:30 am. Puppies are fed a whole food nutritious gruel diet mixed with raw goats milk in their outdoor puppy area (sometimes inside depending on weather). They love it!!

6:30-7:00 am. Light playing, more bathroom time.

7:00-10:00 am. Puppies spend time with our kids inside, other dogs, and then the Puppies are out like a light indoors in their designated areas equipped with a crate and in our master bedroom or family room where they get exposed to family life!

10:00-11:00 am. Puppies start waking up and we get them outside again. Potty time, lots of praise for doing this, and then more playtime and/or swim time! Favorite part of the day is anytime we get to play with them.

11:00-11:30 am. Puppies fed again. Water is always available.

11:30-Noon. Play time and potty time.

Noon-4:00 pm. Kids play with the puppies, Bio-sensor program conducted, Puppies again down for the count....get tired after all the play time and food.

4:00-4:30 pm. Puppies wake up and we get them outside again for potty and play.

4:30-5:00 pm. Puppies are fed, watered, relieved, and played with.

5:00-5:30 pm. Puppies have another chance for potty break.

5:30-7:00 pm. Puppies light play inside.

7:00-9:00 pm. Puppies taken outside to go potty and light playtime.

9:00-10:00 pm. Puppies taken outside last time. We also litter box train them so they always have a place they can use as they still have small bladders. However we use an pine pellet as a litter box substrate which mimics the outdoor odors. At around 4 weeks of age the puppies start showing a preference to go outside to go to the bathroom. They really get the hang of this routine and we believe this gets our Premier Bernedoodles housebroken before they go home. The big thing during the 8 weeks they are here is that each puppy gets a ton of individual play time with all of our kids and lots of enrichment time with all of the puppies and adult dogs. When we have multiple litters at the same time we will let them all play together so they learn how to socialize with other dogs besides their litter mates. Plus since we keep all of our dams and sires in our home, the puppies get lots of opportunities to play and interact with unrelated dogs as well.

Every day is different, so there's a bit of flexibility built in. But routine is important and we try to keep it this way as much as problem but don't get harebrained if we get off target. There's nothing better than the puppy mobs!! Awesome experience for sure!
